Scripture: John 3:9
“Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”
The reality of the spiritual realm is unknown to lost people.
Being “born again” does not mean re-experiencing one’s physical birth. It means receiving eternal life and becoming alive in the spirit. Nicodemus had just learned that life in the flesh and life in the spirit are real, but distinct, life experiences. His response indicated surprise at learning about spiritual life. He had only ever experienced life in the flesh.
Nicodemus had just learned that he was spiritually lifeless - that he needed another birth. Nicodemus had just learned that God designed him to have spiritual senses - an awareness of the spiritual realm - just like he had physical senses to hear the wind and experience life in the flesh.
Jesus told Nicodemus of eternal, spiritual, heavenly things. But, Nicodemus was unable to understand or experience them. Spiritual realities can confuse or confound people who cannot perceive, interact with or understand them.
Christians live and interact in two realms of life: spirit and flesh.
With salvation, Christians receive the ability to interact with the spiritual realm where God lives.
Have I ever realized that I possess two distinct kinds of life, physical and spiritual?
