Scripture: John 1:35-42

Key Ideas:

The passage features Jesus, John the Baptist, Andrew, another disciple and Simon Peter. It records specific interactions between them.

The character’s interactions demonstrate a pattern. John the Baptist saw Jesus, spoke about Him and some followed Him. Andrew spent time with Jesus, spoke about Him and Simon Peter followed Him.

Both John the Baptist and Andrew had an experience with Jesus that changed them from following Jesus to promoting Him to others.

This sequence emerges: hear about Jesus, follow Jesus, spend time with Jesus, promote Jesus.

Application:

Time spent with Jesus moves a believer from being a Jesus follower to being a Jesus promoter.

For the sake of lost people, believers need to spend time with Jesus.

Takeaway:

Bringing more people to Jesus requires spending more time with Him.
