PORTALES (BNM) - The New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries raised $20,911 during Giving Tuesday, December 1.
Giving Tuesday is a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world,” according to the official Giving Tuesday website. Giving Tuesday takes place annually on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This the third year NMBCH has participated in the event.
The children’s home’s 2020 goal was $30,000. While they did not meet that threshold, NMBCH communication specialist, Dana Philips, said the organization “did really well considering the state that everything is in the country and all; I was very excited about that.” The campaign’s $20,911 included a matching donation by a family of supporters. That family has also provided a matching contribution in each of the previous Giving Tuesday campaigns.
According to Philips, funds from the Giving Tuesday campaign will be distributed among NMBCH’s various ministries, including its residential program, adoption program, and the organization’s Hope Center, which houses the Christian Women’s Job Corps and Christian Men’s Job Corps.
Speaking to the organization’s ongoing needs, Philips said, “this is a tough time in our history and the nation’s history, and yet our campus and our ministry can continue to be supported through this.” According to Philips, several people provided encouragement and support to the organization in 2020, adding, “I’m thankful for our staff and our house parents and for those that day in [and] day out put in their time to really do the mission and the ministry.”
On behalf of NMBCH, Philips asked that New Mexico Baptists continue to pray for the organization and its ministry. She encourages those who want to stay current on the ministry to subscribe to the NMBCH email newsletter. To sign up for the email newsletter, visit tiny.cc/nmbchnewsletter.
