Tar Henderson Headshot 2018

Tar Henderson is team leader for the Baptist Convention of New Mexico’s Evangelism and Discipleship Team as well as the BCNM’s smaller membership and rural church consultant. He and his team planned and hosted the bivocational lunch.

CLOVIS (BNM) - Twenty-three bivocational pastors and their families shared a dinner provided by the Baptist Convention of New Mexico at Leal’s Mexican Restaurant, Clovis, following the Tuesday afternoon session (Oct. 22) of the convention's Annual Meeting in the city. The dinner expressed the convention's appreciation for their ministry.

Tar Henderson, smaller membership and rural church consultant for the BCNM, hosted the dinner with his wife, Elaine. After welcoming everyone, he offered a prayer of thanksgiving. Instead of a formal program, the meal provided relaxed, informal time for pastors and their wives fellowship with new friends and renew friendships with others.

Bivocational pastors are men who work at another job in addition to pastoring their church family. Often, such churches cannot afford to support their pastor in a traditional manner.

Karen Pilgreen is a volunteer writer with the Baptist New Mexican.
