Dan and Theresa Cappel

Dan Cappell assumed the pastorate at First Baptist Church, Cuba on Jan. 19. He and his wife, Theresa, moved to New Mexico from Wasilla, Alaska.

CUBA (BNM) - On January 19, Dan Cappel served his first Sunday as the pastor of First Baptist Church, Cuba. Cappel and his wife, Teresa, moved to Cuba from Wasilla, Alaska. Cappel spent 32 years of his career as a project manager for a major oil company. 

Cappel is an ordained and licensed Southern Baptist minister. While in Alaska, he served as an associate pastor, an interim pastor and a pulpit supply preacher. Cappel also served as a consultant for LifeWay Christian Resources for Team West, adult and youth Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, church growth and church conflict. He has served in various church leadership roles, such as an elder, treasurer, teacher, counselor, VBS director and summer camp pastor.

Cappel holds a degree in math and computer science from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and a degree in photography from Lee College in Baytown, Texas. From 2008-2012, he attended Bible Training Center for Pastors, a conservative non-denominational pastoral teaching ministry (bibletraining.com) with a teaching location in Wasilla, taking various classes and earning the role as a certified instructor for the center.
