ALBUQUERQUE (BNM) – Betty Wilson, a former Baptist Convention of New Mexico employee, died on January 18.
Wilson was born May 23, 1934, in Portales to Tom and Ora Jernigan. The family moved to Santa Fe when Wilson was four years old. She graduated from Santa Fe High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Religious Education from Hardin Simmons University, Abilene, Texas. Wilson spent most of her adult life working for the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and the New Mexico Baptist Foundation, both in Albuquerque. She retired in September 1997.
Wilson married Robert C. (Bob) Wilson on July 6, 1958. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Rio Rancho, where her memorial service was held on Saturday, February 25, at 10 a.m.
Preceding Wilson in death were her parents, Tom and Ora Jernigan, and siblings, Leora Wallace, Max Jernigan and Rex Jernigan. Survivors include her sons, Bill (Twila), Charlie (Gail), Ted (Deanna), and Kenneth (Lisa); six granddaughters; five grandsons; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
The family asks that memorial gifts be sent to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.
