Stella Bearce


ALBUQUERQUE (BNM) – Stella Bearce, age 92, died June 13 in Albuquerque. She was a longtime member of Del Norte Baptist Church, Albuquerque.

Bearce grew up in Missouri, born to Claude and Docia Wilson in Spruce, Missouri. She taught at country schools in both Springfield and Appleton City, Missouri.

Bearce met her husband, Leroy, at First Baptist Church, Appleton City. They married Dec. 18, 1948. The couple lived in Bolivar, Missouri, while Leroy finished college. He joined the Army, which caused the family to move frequently. They settled in Las Vegas, New Mexico, after he completed his term with the Army.

Leroy retired as the director of missions for New Mexico’s Northeastern Baptist Association. The couple served the area as Mission Service Corp missionaries from 1982-1993.

Stella worked at and retired from the personnel department of New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, Las Vegas. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Stella also loved to read and stayed active at First Baptist Church. She held an unwavering faith in God and willingly shared it with others.

Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers Clifford and Leslie Wilson. Survivors include her husband, Leroy, her children, Shirley, Sandra and Charles and her grandchildren.
