LAS CRUCES (BNM) – Sheila Marie Pippen, a resident of Las Cruces, died March 6 at 81 years old. Before her death, she taught pre-school children for 40 years.

Edmond and Eunice Garverick raised Pippen in Cisco, Texas, where she became a Christian at an early age. She married David Pippen (1957). They moved to the White Sands Missile Range (1958) and began their family. David pastors Mesquite Baptist Church.

Pippen attended New Mexico State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Science degree in biology. The couple taught Bible classes at First Baptist Church, Las Cruces. They opened their home to several troubled teens who needed a place to stay until they could find permanent living arrangements.

The family moved their church membership to Mesquite Baptist Church in 1977, where David now pastors. At Mesquite, Pippen taught the Bible to pre-school children for 40 years. She loved caring for her grandchildren.

Pippen’s survivors include her husband, David; three children, Lorri (Tim) Roth, Las Cruces, Susan Carpenter, San Diego, California, and Leann (Patrick) Troy, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Barbara) Garverick, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and nephew Gary (Becky) Garverick, Houston, Texas.

Pippen’s legacy is her walk with Jesus Christ. Through her walk, she came to genuinely know and love her Lord. Precepts Ministries International, P.O. Box 182218, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37422-7218 accepts financial gifts in her memory.
