LAS CRUCES (BNM) – Sheila Marie Pippen, a resident of Las Cruces, died March 6 at 81 years old. Before her death, she taught pre-school children for 40 years.
Edmond and Eunice Garverick raised Pippen in Cisco, Texas, where she became a Christian at an early age. She married David Pippen (1957). They moved to the White Sands Missile Range (1958) and began their family. David pastors Mesquite Baptist Church.
Pippen attended New Mexico State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Science degree in biology. The couple taught Bible classes at First Baptist Church, Las Cruces. They opened their home to several troubled teens who needed a place to stay until they could find permanent living arrangements.
The family moved their church membership to Mesquite Baptist Church in 1977, where David now pastors. At Mesquite, Pippen taught the Bible to pre-school children for 40 years. She loved caring for her grandchildren.
