Gerald Lawton

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA (BNM) - Gerald Ross Lawton passed away at his daughter’s home in Cameron, Arizona on Sept. 24 at the age of 82.

Lawton was born in Iva, South Carolina and married Alice Stuart from Starr, South Carolina.

Lawton became a minister at the age of 17, surrendering to the ministry at First Baptist Church, Iva, South Carolina. Lawton continued his education, earning a Doctorate in Theology from Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida. Colonel Chaplain Lawton was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He served many years as a Chaplain with the Navajo Police Department.

Lawton is survived by his wife, Alice; three sons; one daughter; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at East Valley Baptist Church, Flagstaff, Arizona. Burial followed at the Citizens’ Cemetery, Veterans Section in Flagstaff, Arizona.
