Eliseo Montoya

ALBUQUERQUE (BNM) – Eliseo Montoya, age 85, died Aug. 27. Montoya was born Aug. 1, 1935, in Lemitar, New Mexico, to Francisco and Maria Montoya. He worked for Albuquerque Public Schools for 29 years, retiring in 1988. He served as pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Silver City for 22 years.

Family and friends know Montoya for his strong faith and servant’s heart. He set an example for others to follow and share Jesus.

Preceding Montoya in death are his parents, Francisco and Maria Montoya; brother, Celimaco Montoya; and sisters Mary Vargas, Flora Baca, Molly Cordova, Terry Proctor and Selfa Gutierrez.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Maria Luisa Montoya; daughter, Lorencita (Eddie) Lopez; sons, Eliseo (Alice) Montoya, Jr., Raymond (Yolanda) Montoya, and David (Sonia) Montoya; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; sisters Cecilia Torres, Margaret Zamora and Timmie Peralta; brother, Joe Montoya; and nieces and nephews.

First Bilingual Baptist Church, Albuquerque, held the funeral service Sept. 4. Epifanio Mendoza, the pastor of Valley Baptist Church, Belen, and Ricardo Rivera, the interim pastor of First Bilingual Baptist Church, Albuquerque, officiated the service.
