ALBUQUERQUE (BNM) – Martha Sue Donham, age 86, died Aug. 5. Donham dedicated her life to serving her Lord at Grandview Baptist Church, Las Cruces; at Highland Baptist Church, Albuquerque, for nine years; and at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Albuquerque, for 55 years.
Donham and her parents moved to New Mexico when she was young. She graduated from high school in Melrose (1953). Then, she attended Eastern New Mexico University, Portales. There, she met her husband, Tommy, on a blind date. They married June 12, 1954, and celebrated 67 years together June 12, 2021.
Donham worked as a secretary for the Home Economics Department until Tommy graduated from college (1957). After that, she worked as a secretary for Highland Baptist Church, Albuquerque, until giving birth to their first child. Then, Donham became a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She shaped the lives of her two sons, while Tommy traveled frequently for Sandia Labs.
She was an avid sports fan – especially supporting The University of New Mexico’s Lobos. She loved crafts, and especially crocheting. She hosted many friends and family in her home. She loved people and always had a smile on her face.
At her celebration service, Eastern Hill’s Pastor Emeritus Larry Miller said she taught the class “Experiencing God” 16 times to approximately 115 people. He shared that Psalm 25:4-5 reminded him of Donham and that it gives us an example to follow in serving God.
Her survivors include her husband, Tommy; her two sons, Brent (Elesa) and Craig (Katrina); four grandchildren, Lindsay (Shea), Scott (Kristen), Melissa, Kevin (Lauren); three great-grandchildren, Joel, Natalie and Hallie; and her brother, Joe Bledsoe. Her parents, Elmer and Gladys Bledsoe, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family friends to send memorial contributions to Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111, for either the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or the church’s youth mission trips.
